Wendy Redman, vice president for university relations, came to Alaska in 1972 and went to work as a secretary in UAF's then-combined School of Biology, Wildlife, Fisheries, Agriculture, Land Resource Management, Math, Engineering & Physical Sciences. Within four years she was promoted to Assistant to the Chancellor for a newly created Community College, Rural Education, & Cooperative Extension unit. She made her first appearance before the Legislature on behalf of University of Alaska in 1977 and has been the university system's chief advocate in Juneau ever since. In 1980 she became the Assistant to the Chancellor of the UAF campus, and in 1982 moved to Statewide Administration. In 1983 she was named Vice President for University Relations with responsibility for public affairs, state and federal relations, development, and corporate programs.
With her background in community college education and continuing involvement with workforce development, Redman continues to provide statewide representation, perspective and leadership for the career and technical education programs. Redman represents the University on the Alaska Human Resource Investment Council, and on the Workforce Investment Board representing Rural Alaska job training programs. Redman did her undergraduate work at the University of Washington and completed her master's degree in public policy at Harvard University.
