Ringstad has more than 24 years of experience in government relations, advocacy for education, community affairs and university administration. Her background also includes 10 years of experience in business and corporate management in the private sector.

Ringstad was the director of government and community relations for the University of Alaska statewide administration from 1997 to 2004. She also served as assistant to the president. She served as chief of staff to various Alaska State legislators from 1983-1997, focusing on finance and state affairs.

Ringstad is a lifelong Alaskan. She earned an associate of arts degree from UAF in 2005 and a bachelor's degree in business administration and history at UAF in 2006.

Ringstad serves on the board of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, and chaired the 2005 AACC/AASCU/CASE/NASALGC State Relations Conference. She also serves on the Creating Alaska project steering committee. She is a member of the Pioneers of Alaska Igloo Auxiliary #8.
