As the Director of Kenai Peninsula College, Turner is responsible for the Kenai River Campus in Soldotna, Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, Mining and Petroleum Training Service in Soldotna and Anchorage, KPC Anchorage Extension Site, and Resurrection Bay Extension Site in Seward. Prior to this position he served as a senior vice president and general manager of Weber Shandwick Worldwide\the largest public relations firm in the world.

Turner was the program manager for public affairs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., from 1996-2000, and also served as the continuing education coordinator and faculty member at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus from 1995-1996.

Turner retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1994, out of Fairbanks, after a career as a public affairs officer and instructor at the Air Force Academy. He founded the Kenai Fishing Academy in 2002 to teach people how to fish and respect Alaskan resources, is a Certified Coast Guard 25 Ton Master Captain, spends more than 45 days fishing the Kenai River each year and is a registered Alaska sportfishing guide. Turner serves on the Board of Directors for the Kenai River Sportfishing Association and was elected to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game Kenai/Soldotna Advisory Committee.
